The Jersey Pistol Club has a remarkable record of success in international competitions spanning a number of decades. The photo below shows Carol Graham receiving her award as the British Ladies Air Pistol Champion at the 14th British Airgun Championships in 1988.
Carol is by far the most successful high-level competitor that the JPC (and probably Jersey) has had to date. Carol’s achievements include:
- Shooting for Great Britain in the 1984 Olympic Games, held in Los Angeles
- Shooting for Great Britain in the 1996 Olympic Games, held in Atlanta
- A number of Commonwealth Games medals
- British Champion 10+ times
- Held/Holds a number of British shooting records.
Success in competition is broadly shared by a number of Jersey Pistol Club members, with the following individuals having shot at the Commonwealth Games (although not always representing Jersey): Carol Graham, Carol Benest, Dave Ward, Denis Remon, Derek Bernard, John Renouf, John Rolfe, Marcus Hill, and Mike Quenault.
Arguably our most ‘visible’ successes have occurred at the biannual International Island Games which are well covered by the local media outlets. Over the years, an array of JPC members have brought home medals in a wide variety of shooting disciplines, as illustrated in the following table.
